# INDTEGRATE > Industrial Net-Zero Technology Gateway for Real-world Application and Transition Enablement — integrating solid oxide electrolysis cells into energy-intensive industries. ## Project - **Name:** INDTEGRATE - **URL:** https://indtegrate.eu - **Funding:** European Union, Horizon Europe, Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking, grant agreement No 101294637 - **Coordinator:** KERIONICS S.L., Valencia, Spain - **Communication lead:** ena Development Consultants, Xanthi, Greece - **Consortium:** 12 partners across 7 countries - **Languages:** English (default), Greek - **Contact:** info@indtegrate.eu INDTEGRATE is a Horizon Europe-funded project aiming to support energy-intensive industries in lowering their carbon emissions through the adoption of net-zero technologies. Focusing on the ceramics and glass sectors, and by integrating Solid Oxide Electrolyser Cells (SOECs), renewable energy sources, industrial waste heat recovery, and advanced digital solutions, INDTEGRATE aims to enhance energy efficiency, optimise hydrogen generation, and facilitate the transition towards climate-neutrality. Moreover, through the development and validation of a modular SOEC system in real industrial settings, INDTEGRATE intends to demonstrate a scalable and economically viable approach for the decarbonisation of industrial processes. ## How the system fits together - **Inputs:** renewable electricity; industrial waste heat - **Core:** modular 220 kW SOEC electrolyser - **Digital layer:** electrolyser and process digital twins, energy management system - **Outputs:** green hydrogen and oxygen; ceramic and glass furnaces running on lower carbon ## Objectives ### 1. Efficient hydrogen production Efficient with the development of thermophysical and techno-economic reduced-order models, process and electrolyser digital twins, and an advanced energy management system. ### 2. Industrial SOEC demonstration Design, integrate, and validate a modular 220 kW SOEC system in operational ceramic and glass manufacturing facilities. ### 3. Waste heat recovery Efficient utilisation of industrial waste heat and integration of hydrogen-based combustion solutions to reduce fossil fuel consumption and emissions. ### 4. Sustainability and performance assessment Assess environmental, technical, and economic performance through life cycle assessment, techno-economic evaluation, and operational validation. ### 5. Skills development and industrial uptake Workforce training, safe system operation, and adoption of SOEC technologies across energy-intensive industries. ## Work packages ### WP1 — Coordination and Project Management Effective coordination will ensure resource optimisation, compliance, and milestone delivery through structured activity tracking, risk and quality management, Open Science-aligned data governance. ### WP2 — System requirements for design This work package develops high-fidelity, real-time Reduced-Order Models (ROMs) for ceramic and glass industries, enabling smart integration via seamless Electrolyser Digital Twin (EDT), Process Digital Twin (PDT), and Energy Management System (EMS) interfacing. The models support co-simulation, predictive control, and the digital backbone for performance forecasting, energy optimisation, and decarbonisation analysis. This WP will define the collaborative methodology for design, establishing a plan for iterative workshops among all the stakeholders involved in the design. ### WP3 — Net zero technology design for replicability The objective is to design and integrate the 220 kW SOEC electrolyser into industrial environments, optimising materials for durability and thermal management using renewable energy and waste heat following a co-creation philosophy where manufacturers, digital tool developers and industrial users collaborate from the outset. Heat exchangers will recover 120 kW/h from furnaces to support steam generation. Hydrogen combustion will be assessed for flame stability and emissions. The Electrolyser Digital Twin (EDT) will simulate SOEC behaviour, the Process Digital Twin (PDT) will model process interactions, and the Energy Management System (EMS) will optimise Balance of Plant (BoP) operations and grid integration for efficient, stable performance. ### WP4 — Prototypes construction The objective is the manufacturing of a fully functional SOEC electrolyser prototype, its Balance of Plant (BoP), and integration of heat recovery and Energy Management System (EMS) for efficient and controlled operation. This includes the manufacturing and assembly of the electrolyser, the design and implementation of a heat exchanger for effective waste heat recovery, and the integration of key subsystems such as power supply, control, cooling, and gas handling. ### WP5 — Implementation & commissioning This WP aims to integrate the Solid Oxide Electrolyser Cell (SOEC) system into ceramic and glass furnaces, validate the Energy Management System (EMS) for dynamic energy management, and support real-time optimisation. It includes detailed engineering for installation, auxiliary systems (heat bypass, control, gas skid, Balance of Plant) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with safety planning. ### WP6 — Validation of SOEC system in real environment The objective of this WP is to validate the novel net-zero technology in a real environment, addressing (i) production of 56 m3/h H2 and 30 m3/h O2, (ii) balanced production in a smelter incorporating H2 and recovering 120 kWh heat, and (iii) integration in a glass furnace. ### WP7 — Sustainability assessment The objective is to analyse the policy and regulatory adjustments needed to accelerate the adoption of net-zero technologies in energy-intensive industries, ensuring alignment with current legislation and EU climate goals. The WP will identify technical, economic, organisational, and operational barriers to integration. ### WP8 — Communication & Dissemination The objective of this WP is to develop and implement a communication strategy that raises awareness of project goals, activities, and outcomes, while promoting the role of net-zero technologies in decarbonising energy-intensive industries, and to deliver targeted training materials to build technical, digital, and operational capabilities. ### WP9 — Exploitation The WP will identify and prioritise key exploitable results, assess their uptake potential, and define exploitation pathways through business modelling and go-to-market planning. Proper intellectual property protection will be ensured, alongside a roadmap to maximise post-project impact. ## Consortium | Organisation | Country | Role | | --- | --- | --- | | KERIONICS S.L. | Spain (Valencia) | Coordinator | | TORRECID SA | Spain (Alcora, Castellón) | Partner | | Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) | Spain | Partner | | Universitat Politècnica de València | Spain (Valencia) | Partner | | INCOTEC Efficient Innovation | Spain | Partner | | FUKS GROUP LLC | Poland | Partner | | Bitwise Oy | Finland | Partner | | Steklarna Hrastnik LLC | Slovenia | Pilot site | | Precision Resource Slovenia | Slovenia | Partner | | Center for Applied Energy Research e.V.
